Dr. Perito’s announcement comes on the heels of the recent publication of a position statement on standardization and safety of cosmetic penile enhancement procedures by the Sexual Medicine Society of America (SMSNA). The statement, written by Dr. Perito and Dr. Alfredo Suarez-Sarmiento, Jr., describes the need for genital cosmetic procedures to be performed by qualified urologists and urologic surgeons using scientifically tested and approved methods.

“The penile anatomy is unforgiving, and small errors can cause major harm,” said Dr. Perito in the statement.

In this video, Dr. Perito shares two separate cases he has seen recently, one where a patient had a penile implant damaged by an inexperienced provider, and the other where a man had undergone severe negative effects following the placement of silicone into the penis.
