Dr. Perito answers this with two basic facts:
- Erectile dysfunction causes atrophy of penile tissue. The longer you wait to treat it, the more loss of length and girth will occur.
- The cylinders of penile prostheses have fixed diameters, penises have dynamic diameters that will continue to decline with untreated ED.
A dedicated penile implanter will select the prosthesis most appropriately sized for a patient; it should be as large as is safe for the patient, but not so large that it leads to complications or malfunction.
