Last week, Perito Urology was joined by Dr. Francis Petrella for a week long intensive training in prosthetic urology. The week began with a deep dive into the kinds of cases that define a surgeon’s experience: complex inflatable prosthesis scenarios, revisions, and management of external factors such as fibrosis or prior complications.
This was followed up with a high-volume day consisting of six cases with three new, or “virgin” implants and three highly complex revisions. While virgin cases reinforce efficiency and technique, revision surgeries require high-level problem solving.
One such surgery involved a complication that was exceedingly rare, if not novel to Drs. Perito and Petrella. The surgery was a success, but proved a reminder that even the most experienced surgeons can often discover new and challenging scenarios in the operating room.
The week with Dr. Petrella ended by combining him and Dr. Perito’s expertise in prosthetic urology with the patented UroFill® girth enhancement technique.
